       Conclusion

Frequently, you will not wish to use one of FrontPage´s built-in "Themes". Customising a theme and saving it under a new name is one option if you want to be creative.  However, if you create a brand new page, and want to be able to reproduce that 'look' on several pages, you could create a. " Template"

A Template page is exactly what its name suggests - a page you can `clone´ for a consistant look-and-feel on your site.

Step 1
Create the page of your dreams - complete with background image or wallpaper, buttons, graphics, navigation bars (although of course you can't do the hyperlinks until subsequent pages exist) and any external links.

Step 2
Save this page (along with all its graphic elements) as a template (File/save as...).  If you don´t do this, nothing else works.

Step 3
In the EDITOR select File/New ...  You will be presented with a list of all available templates from which to choose - and your newly created template will be there as well. Double-click on it, and it will open up. You probably won't notice any difference in what you see, because the newly-opened page is the exact replica of your original one.

Step 4
Immediately SAVE this newly created page (and all its graphics), by going to File/Save as and choosing a new name for the page. This new page is now a part of your web.

Step 5
Click on Navigation View, and you will find your new page in the Files section.  Drag your new page from the file area up into the Navigation window, placing it where you want it in your thumbnail. If FrontPage asks if you want it to create links for you automatically, click "No".

You can repeat steps 3 to 5 as often often as you wish (item 5 is optional, of course... it all depends of whether you like to use the thumbnail to navigate from page to page.) Each time you do so, you will have another page with your personal "theme".

Important warning:

Unfortunately, you can't impose a template on an existing web site.... this is something you have to create page by page from your Home page.
